Vertigo Meets Disney Parks — Animal Kingdom
Updated: Sep 25, 2022
Everything you need to know before going to Animal Kingdom with vertigo and motion sickness.
Rating Scale: 1-10 (1: still riding the ride an hour later (iykyk) - red flag, avoid)
(10: Can walk a straight line to next attraction - good to go)
*Chicken Exits refer to the point in the queue a guest can exit the line, meaning you can stay in line all the way to this point and then tell a cast member you won’t be riding and they will tell you where to exit. All attractions have some sort of chicken exit so guests who may not want to ride can stay with their party and enjoy the queue.
Please note: We are not licensed to give medical advice or liable for these suggestions. Information is based on the personal experience of a Disney vacation with an immediate family member with vertigo. Every person’s vertigo is different and no one knows your health condition better than you. Please consult a doctor prior to your trip if you have questions about your health.

Animal Kingdom Attractions
Avatar Flight of Passage
Rating: 1.5/10, this is a bad idea
Description: Simulator ride, 3D glasses
Alternative: Check out the gift shop at the end of the ride for unique merchandise and experiences. Or head over to Pongu Pongu for a Night Blossom or Satu’li Canteen for a meal.
Chicken Exit: Where guests board their banshee. Similar to Rise of the Resistance, you can go all the way through the queue to see the Avatar-themed elements and watch the preshows before exiting. Just let a cast member know you’d like to watch the preshows but will not be riding. You’ll just stand with someone in your party on their number marker.
DINOSAUR
Rating: 2/10, probably shouldn’t
Description: Indoor, dark-ride, sudden slight drops and movement, varying speeds
Alternative: Check out the gift shops or head over to the pin trading spot next to Chester and Hester’s Dinosaur’s Treasures.
Chicken Exit: Where guests board the ride vehicle. There are some things to look at in this queue, but don’t feel like you have to experience it.
Expedition Everest
Rating: 1/10, this is also a bad idea
Description: Fast-moving, rollercoaster, forward and backward moving, flashing lights, partly dark-ride
Alternative: There's adequate seating in this area as well as auditorium seating facing the Discovery River. If you’re lucky, you’ll catch a viewing of Kite Tails.
Chicken Exit: Where guests board the ride vehicle. There are some things to look at in this queue, but don’t feel like you have to experience it. But if you’re a Joe Rohde fan, like myself, walk through to see the authentic remnants from Mount Everest Base Camp and similarities to Nepal.
It's Tough to be a Bug
Rating: 9/10, you can do this one, but does anyone really want to?
Description: 3D show where guests sit in auditorium-style seating, 3D glasses are handed out
Alternative: Try watching the show with the glasses and if it’s too much, take the glasses off. The show will be a bit blurry but you’d still be able to watch it. Or you’re located in Discovery Island where there are a lot of gift shops and pin trading spots.
Chicken Exit: Because this is a show, there’s not really a queue. Guests wait in a room outside the auditorium and you can leave at any time prior to the show starting.
Kali River Rapids
Rating: 3/10, not the best idea
Description: Water ride, rough movements, and some spinning
Alternative: Plenty of shopping and food options in this area, like the Yak and Yeti restaurant and stands.
Chicken Exit: Prior to the boarding area. This queue is an ordinary line with not much to look at, so don’t feel you need to experience it.
Kilimanjaro Safaris
Rating: 9/10, this is good for you!
Description: Slow-moving safari ride, just like riding in a vehicle
Alternative: Plenty of shopping and food options in this area.
Chicken Exit: Where your party boards the jeep. This queue is an ordinary line with not much to look at, so don’t feel you need to experience it.
Na'vi River Journey
Rating: 8.5/10, yes, ride it!
Description: Slow-moving, boat ride, dark ride
Alternative: Head over to Pongu Pongu for a Night Blossom, enjoy the views of Mo’ara, or stop by Satu’li Canteen for a meal.
Chicken Exit: Where your party boards the boat. This queue is an ordinary line with not much to look at, so don’t feel you need to experience it.
Triceratop Spin
Rating: 2/10, don’t ride
Description: Spins, medium-paced, forward-moving, also moves up and down, which is controlled by the rider
Alternative: There typically is not a long line for this ride, so stop by the gift shop in Dinoland or check out the carnival games.
Chicken Exit: Where guests board. This queue is an ordinary line with not much to look at, so don’t feel you need to experience it.
