Recipe: Candy Cane Margarita
‘Tis the season to get a little toasty.
We love anything seasonal — especially cocktails. If you’re looking for a festive cocktail to serve this holiday season, try our take on the Candy Cane Margarita that’s found at Dockside Margaritas in Disney Springs.
Candy Cane Margarita
Yields 1 cocktail
Ingredients:
1 ounce peppermint simple syrup
2 ounces tequila blanco
½ ounce fresh lime juice
3 ounces cranberry ginger ale or Sprite
Candy cane, for garnish
Instructions:
Make peppermint simple syrup. Combine 1 cup sugar, 1 cup water, and ½ teaspoon peppermint extract. This will make multiple servings of simple syrup — pour leftover simple syrup in a Mason jar and store in the fridge.
Combine peppermint simple syrup, tequila, and lime juice in a cocktail shaker and shake.
Strain into a margarita glass and top with cranberry ginger ale. Serve with a candy cane garnish, if desired.
Takeaway:
First and foremost, be careful with the peppermint extract. A little bit goes a long way — I kept adding the simple syrup because I couldn’t taste the peppermint and then all of a sudden my lips were going numb because I put too much in. Less is definitely more in this scenario.
I was a little skeptical about the cranberry, mint, and tequila pairing, but it actually worked pretty well. You obviously have to like mint to like this margarita, but if that’s you, then I say give it a try!
