The Top 10 Disney Love Stories
The perfect love story doesn’t exi-- tell that to these Disney characters.
Whether it’s true love’s kiss or the loving embrace from a family member or friend, Disney sure knows how to tell a love story — and make us fall in love with their characters. We’ve rounded up our top 10 favorite Disney love stories of all time. From the ones that made our hearts melt to the ones that just bring a smile to our face, these are the best Disney love stories ever told.
1. Mulan & Shang (Mulan)
Sure, Shang was probably confused about his feelings for Mulan at first, but she did save his life… and China. Ping and Shang made a good pair of buds, but Mulan and Shang make for a great couple (even if they do have their ups and downs in Mulan II, but that’s just a healthy relationship as they learn to communicate). I’m sure we were all as excited as Grandmother Fa when we found out that Shang, in fact, did want to stay forever.
2. Anna & Elsa (Frozen)
Yes, there are couple-y love stories in Frozen. And, yes, we love Anna and Kristoff as much as the next person, but we’re obsessed with Anna and Elsa’s love story even more. Cue Kristoff’s sad, rock ballad. Disney proved they’re so much more than damsels in distress with this story and it shows that a sisters’ love is never-ending and more powerful than anything else. Even if Elsa did hurt Anna (a few times), it just goes to show your family will continue to do anything for you.
3. Lilo & Stitch (Lilo & Stitch)
What started out as a pet-human dynamic, which is already an important bond, turned into a best friendship. No matter how many times Stitch messed up, Lilo was there to pick up the pieces and help him — and that goes for Nani and David too — because Ohana means family, and family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten. We’re not crying, you are.
4. Rapunzel & Flynn (Tangled)
Yes, Flynn started the story as the lovable bad guy, but he changed his ways for Rapunzel. He literally sacrificed his life for the girl who smacked him upside the head with a frying pan. Tangled isn’t about their love story, though, and that’s what makes it even better. The two just naturally come together after everything they’ve been through while Rapunzel battles with another “love” story — her mother’s.
5. Aladdin & Jasmine (Aladdin)
We know he lied about who he was, but Jasmine didn’t fall in love with him because he was a prince. And, truthfully, Aladdin didn’t fall in love with Jasmine because she was a princess, either. Their love is about more than just status and titles — it’s about magic carpet rides too! In all seriousness, Aladdin treats Jasmine like a real person and not just a means to a throne like other princes, or Jafar.
6. Nick & Elizabeth (The Parent Trap)
Come on, we had to include Nick and Elizabeth. These two beat the odds and came back together after so many years (and a witchy, beautiful girlfriend). Not to mention, they’re quite an attractive couple. This story is probably unrealistic for so many reasons, but we don’t care — it's true love! Plus, Elizabeth’s spiraling scene where she says “I’m not mature enough for this,” is a mood we can all relate to.
7. Carl & Ellie (Up)
We only got a glimpse of Carl and Ellie’s love story, but it was enough to have us in tears when Ellie died. They had such a lovely life together and he may be a grumpy old man, but he was just trying to get to Paradise Falls so he could fulfill his promise. If that’s not love, then what is?!
8. Queen Clarisse & Mia (The Princess Diaries)
This one may seem weird, but hear us out! Queen Clarisse shows up out of nowhere to tell her granddaughter she’s a princess. OK, you got us, it’s weird that she was absent for so many years, but hang on! In the process of teaching Mia how to become a princess, Clarisse and Mia develop such an adorable bond. Clarisse learns to put her granddaughter’s best interest in mind by letting her step down from the throne, but Mia surprises us all by accepting the position! Which also means we got a whole second movie of Clarisse and Mia hijinx in Genovia.
9. Pongo & Perdita / Anita & Roger (101 Dalmatians)
The idea that two dogs fall in love and in turn their humans fall in love too is already a great love story. But add on a crazy dog-snatching lady trying to literally skin your puppies and you’ve got a whirlwind story. Not to mention that Pongo and Perdita have 99 puppies running around — and raising that many kids takes true love.
10. Mickey & Minnie
Come on, Mickey and Minnie are the OG Disney love story! They have literally been going steady since the 1930s. And Mickey’s voice actor, Wayne Allwine, was married to Minnie’s voice actor, Russi Taylor. Talk about true couple goals <3
