Our Favorite Board Game Just Got a Disney100 Makeover

Updated: Jul 8, 2023

Check out what's new with Ravensburger’s Villainous

The second Disney World’s 50th Anniversary celebration ended, it felt like everything became Disney100-themed. Even our favorite board game series, Villainous, is getting its own Disney100 makeover to celebrate Disney’s 100th anniversary.

This summer is an exciting time for Ravensburger and Disney fans because the brand is adding two new games to its growing lineup. Earlier this year, it announced the Star Wars Scum and Villainy expandalone, the second game in the Star Wars Villainous series. More recently, Ravensburger announced a redesigned version of its original Disney Villainous game. This version, titled Disney Villainous: Introduction to Evil, will be a simplified rendition of the original Villainous game.

Disney Villainous: Introduction to Evil features four of the original Villainous characters — Maleficent, Captain Hook, Ursula, and Prince John — in a reimagined gray game box that showcases Ursula instead of Maleficent (like on the original) — a little nod to the live-action The Little Mermaid maybe?

The game is marketed as being great for beginners, as Ravensburger has streamlined instructions and gameplay to make it easier for those who haven’t played the strategy game before.

“We are celebrating 100 years of Disney animation with a commemorative edition of Disney Villainous that honors existing fans of the game while also welcoming Disney fans and others who haven't yet had the chance to try Disney Villainous and may be less familiar with more strategy-based games to the table,” said Florian Baldenhofer, International Category Director – Games at Ravensburger. “Based on fan feedback, we were able to incorporate small tweaks to the game and strike the perfect balance for this limited-edition entry into the award-winning franchise.”

The limited-edition game will also feature new mover pieces with an “exclusive, lustrous” finish.

Disney Villainous: Introduction to Evil launches on July 30 — the same day as Star Wars Scum and Villainy — and is available now for preorder at Target.

That’s not all that’s come out of Ravensburger this week. It’s also been announced that a new Oogie Boogie expandalone will be available in time for Halloween. Disney Villainous: Filled With Fright will be the first single-player expansion in the Disney Villainous line, similar to Marvel Villainous: We Are Venom, which launched last year. That means you’ll need another Disney Villainous game in order to play as Oogie Boogie.

The game is set to be released in October and will likely have a preorder soon.
