A Definitive Rating of the Disney Channel Holiday Album
It’s no “Send It On,” but it’s still a bop.
There’s absolutely nothing like celebrating the holiday season with festive movies and catchy songs. However, despite going all out in the Disney parks with decor, merch, the candlelight processional, and themed food, Disney lacks on the Christmas front, in general. We barely have any holiday movies that were actually made by Disney — Home Alone doesn’t really count since it was acquired in the 20th Century Studios merger — and if you want to listen to a holiday song, they basically only have “Do You Want To Build a Snowman” to offer.
So, per usual, the burden falls on the beloved ‘00s Disney Channel shows and stars to carry us through the season. We’ve already ranked the best Disney Channel holiday episodes, but if you want to go even deeper into the archives, let us remind you of the 2007 album “Disney Channel Holiday.” The 14-track album features our favorite Disney Channel stars — like the Jonas Brothers and Hannah Montana with Miley Cyrus — singing your favorite Christmas carols. We listened to the album, and these are the songs we think you should add to your holiday playlist this year.
1. "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" - Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus
This song is everything you want it to be. It’s Hannah Montana rocking out, it’s a classic Christmas song, it’s just perfect. So, it’s no wonder that it has over 7 million plays on Spotify. 10/10 must add to your playlist
2. "Girl of My Dreams" - Jonas Brothers
As the resident JoBros stan of Wishes & Wayfinding, I’m embarrassed to say I didn’t know this song existed. After listening to it, I wish I stayed in the dark. All I have to say is “this awesome scarf my grandma made for me” might be even cringier than “next time I see you, I’m giving you a high five cause hugs are overrated just FYI.” Though, I will give it to them, the beat slaps. 6/10 it’s nostalgic Jonas Brothers, but “Like It’s Christmas” is so much better
3. "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" - The Cheetah Girls
This is a fun, upbeat rendition of a traditionally slow, and oftentimes solemn, song. Plus, you know those Cheetah Sisters can hit a harmony. 7/10 not my favorite Christmas song, but a good version of it
4. "Last Christmas" - Ashley Tisdale
I knew Sharpay would slay this song. However, it does sound very Disney Channel-esque, so I’m not sure that it has withstood the test of 15-year time. 5/10 you can skip if you already have five “Last Christmas” songs on your playlist
5. "This Christmastime” - Corbin Bleu
Contrary to what you might think, this is not “This Christmas.” Oh, no, it’s a Corbin Bleu original. 2/10 you can stick to listening to “I Don’t Dance”
6. "Home for the Holidays" - Keke Palmer
For some reason, Miss Keke’s song isn’t on Spotify, so I will be immediately docking points. After listening on YouTube, it’s a fine song, but not accessible. 2/10 but do listen to her 2023 bop “Christmas Kisses”
7. "Best Time of the Year" - Christy Carlson Romano
Sorry, but anything Christy Carlson Romano is an immediate skip. 1/10 iykyk
8. "Run Rudolph Run" - Billy Ray Cyrus
This is such a classic Billy Ray Cyrus vibe and I’m absolutely here for it. Why anyone was surprised “Old Town Road” was such a hit for Billy Ray, I’ll never know, but “Run Rudolph Run” is the perfect mix of rock and country. 8/10 I’m knocking off points for the creepy “little Miley doll” lyric change
9. "Celebrate Love" - Jordan Pruitt
Pruitt wasn’t technically a Disney Channel star — just a singer who went on tour with the casts. So, for that, I’m dinging her song. Plus, it’s an extra-slow song, which totally brings the vibes down after Billy Ray. 1/10 sorry, girl
10. "Let It Snow" - Lucas Grabeel
Oh, Lucas. It’s giving audition for “Glee.” The choir background vocals are really doing a lot for this one, but maybe you should have done a song with Ashley Tisdale instead. Another Sharpay and Ryan duet? I’d be down. 3/10 you’re not missing much
11. "Jingle Bells (A Hip Hop Carol)" - Kyle Massey
Did this album need a rap song? No. Is it a good version of “Jingle Bells?” Also no. But is it fun? Sure. 2/10 feels like an unnecessary addition
12. "Greatest Time of Year" - Aly & AJ
Now this is how you do an original Christmas song Disney style. Maybe it’s the fact that it just reminds me of Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause, but I could listen to this song on repeat. 10/10 a must add
13. "Christmas Vacation" - Monique Coleman
This is such a fun song — from a great holiday movie — but the autotune in Monique’s version…woof. Once you get past that, and the fact that most artists don’t cover this song, you might want to listen to it again. 4/10 I wouldn’t know this came from a Disney Channel album
14. "I'll Be Home for Christmas" - Drew Seeley
Is it just me or did finding out Drew Seeley sang for Zac Efron kind of ruin your childhood? Maybe I still haven’t forgiven him — or maybe I just don’t like “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” in general — but I don’t need to hear this song again. 3/10 fine, if you don’t have animosity for Seeley
