Free Guy is Proving Disney Won’t Family-ize 20th Century Fox

Don’t worry, profanity and PG-13 are here to stay!

If you got nervous when you heard the news that Disney was purchasing 20th Century Fox, now called 20th Century Studios, in 2017, you’re not alone. Yes, Disney has acquired many companies before and never changed their main goal, like ABC or Marvel. But unlike prior acquisitions, 20th Century Fox’s movie library has quite a few not-very-family-friendly movies — like R-rated Deadpool. So it’s totally understandable that you would be nervous about the fate of your favorite movies and characters.

The good news is you won’t have to worry about Disney forcing 20th Century Studios’ hand into family-izing their movies, and Free Guy is the perfect example of that. Free Guy, a PG-13 film, will begin streaming on Disney+ on February 23. This is a movie that received a “moderate” score on both “violence and gore” and “profanity” on IMDb’s Parents Guide.

Free Guy is obviously no Deadpool, but it’s perfectly suitable for Disney’s older audience — and an excuse to purchase Disney+ if you don’t already have it. Plus, you don’t see many new 20th Century Studios’ films on Disney+, especially the “adult” movies which are typically housed on their other streaming service, Hulu, so adding Free Guy to the library is a nice change.

Additionally, Free Guy will only be available to Disney+ accounts with the Content Rating controls set to PG-13 and higher. So, no Kids profile will be able to access the movie — side note, if you didn’t know there were parental controls, you should check to make sure yours are set to the TV-14 setting so you can access Disney+’s full library.

Beyond knowing that 20th Century Studios will continue pumping out quality, teen and adult-only films, we’re just excited to be able to stream Free Guy on Disney+. While we probably won’t see Deadpool on the streamer for obvious reasons, it really is convenient to have all the movies in one place. Plus, any day that we don’t have to experience the blaring sound of Hulu’s ads, is a great day.
